Enhance RTO Using Secure Data Innovations' Secure Data Solution®
(SDS) to put tape images
on virtual instead of physical tape, a hospital complex has been
able to retire all its aging 3490-model tape drives, with
considerable savings in both floor space and power/cooling costs.
The nightly mainframe backup window was also reduced — by over 60
percent! — allowing full-volume backups that were previously not
possible due to time constraints.
Since the tape images no longer reside on physical tape, the hospital
is also able to eliminate a third-party courier and storage service,
resulting in even more cost savings and in increased data
security—no physical tapes to be lost or stolen. And encryption of
the tape images helped meet HIPAA requirements for data security.
Backups are managed remotely, with no on-site presence at hospital
facilities. Because of the benefits achieved in its mainframe
environment, the hospital is considering deploying the Secure Data
Solution to its open systems group, which faces challenges similar
to those encountered by the mainframe team before the installation
of the SDS.
